The Benjamin Building

The Mid-Continent Companies is headquartered in Midtown Houston’s historic Benjamin Building at 1218 Webster. Mid-Continent’s respectful rehabilitation of this historic structure is a testament to the property’s impressive heritage.

Constructed in 1924 and renovated in 2000, the one-time apartment structure is a prime example of multifamily housing constructed on the south end of downtown Houston after World War I. Successful businessman Benjamin Cohen (1875-1951) called upon noted Houston architect Alfred Finn to design the building. Its style is evocative of the Renaissance Revival/Arts & Crafts movement prominent at the time. After Cohen sold the building in 1945, it was used as a private hospital but lay vacant for much of the late 20th century. The property today remains true to its aesthetic and architectural heritage, while being appropriately enriched with contemporary technologies and amenities.

The Benjamin Building is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. It is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and a City of Houston Historic Landmark.
